The Wedding

Earlier this week a friend of mine asked, "what all the excitement was about the wedding."
My answer as I looked at him questioningly was It's...historical. And my goodness it was...I would like to tell you why.

Yes, it was huge. It was beautiful. It was expensive ($60 million). It had carriages. It was a fairytale come to life. Prancing horses. Angelic singers. Trumpets and heads of state. Athletes and politicians. Knights and entertainers.

But at it's core it was simply a pure exchange of traditional vows between a man and a woman. That simple exchange orchestrated by the Archbishop really tells the story.  That exchange of marriage vows represents rebirth.

People get married everyday. The fact that this royal couple used the same words used across the world by millions of men and women is perfect in its simplicity.  That union of man and woman is pure and blessed in the eyes of God and our Creator.

Yes it's about rebirth. The rebirth of the British monarchy and it's relationship with it's people.  The marriage of the Royal William Arthur Philip Louis and the former Commoner Catherine Elizabeth is about the rebirth of hope. And guess what every marriage that occurs in our world is about rebirth and hope.

That is what made the Royal Wedding so special...it reminded each and every one of us that every marriage is about rebirth. It also says that in God's eyes...we are all royalty. That gives me hope and that makes "the wedding" very historical.

Faithless

I drove by last night and saw under your light
That other guy’s car was parked
Tried to drive away I didn’t want to stay
As I slammed my truck door in the dark

I flew up the steps my heart wouldn’t rest
Banging my fist on your door
Margie let me in without even a grin
I rushed past her straight to your door

My boot hit the lock the door gave with a pop
I stood in the middle of your room
He said what the hell I said you ain’t very swell
Haul your ass right out of this room

You crawled out of bed and slapped at my head
How could I be this insane
I knew in that flash it was over at last
I could feel the adrenalin pain

I flashed her a smile said I’d leave in a while
But first you must tell me no lie
It was only last week that you kissed me to sleep
And now I just feel like I’ll die

She reached to my cheek and finally did speak
Somehow I know he’s the one
It happened I think you’d left town for a week
Deep inside I know he’s the one

It’s not about me and finally I see
Somehow she just knows he’s the one
It’s not about me I don’t want to see
Cause I know that she was the one

Hey hey Nancy who the hell are you

This week I read an article about a speech given by Nancy Pelosi at Tufts University.  This is the link to that speech

The speech caused this response.  Might make a good Country song......

Hey hey Nancy who the hell are you
Telling us elections shouldn’t matter as much as they do

You thought you were the queen of the nanny state
Hey Hey Nancy you make me puke in my plate

You aren’t the power telling me what to do
My rights came from God sure as hell not from you

Hey Hey Nancy who the hell are you
Telling us elections shouldn’t matter as much as they do

Nancy says elections matter when they make me the boss
Hell, You sure ain’t pretty and thank the Lord you lost

You used to swing a gavel as big as your head
Hey Hey Nancy I’m proud I’m American bred

Hey hey Nancy who the hell are you
Telling us elections shouldn’t matter as much as they do

This is the land of liberty where free men vote as they please
You have forgotten your job was to serve not tease

Taxing and spending was all you could do
Did not protect us now leave Jezebel you

Hey hey Nancy who the hell are you
Telling us elections shouldn’t matter as much as they do

You’re just a woman over DC way
I live in the heat and hear what I say

You sold my job and helped ship it to China
Stop your crap lets build cars in Carolina

Hey hey Nancy who the hell are you
Telling us elections shouldn’t matter as much as they do

Blood was spilled to fight for my right
To vote as I please God gives me my might

Used to be basic Civics class
Told one the truth not your tortured ass

Hey hey Nancy who the hell are you
Telling us elections shouldn’t matter as much as they do

HAVE I ADMITTED TO YOU THAT I AM VAIN

Last week we talked about a simple plan.  Yep, you have to have a plan. So what has that got to do with vanity. Well... I'll tell you.

Today I just finished my workout. I grabbed my bike and rode up into the foothills. Then I deliberately tortured myself.  Found a medium hill about a quarter of a mile in length and did sprints up the hill. Coasted down and then sprinted back up the hill as fast as I could. I did 8 sprints. Low impact won't hurt anything unless I fall off the bike. Don't laugh did that already and broke my left wrist...........

Now, I could say that I did those sprints just for my health, but the biggest motivating factor is my vanity. I so don't want to look FAT. I so don't want to look like a SLUG. I still have this fantasy about getting back to my perfect weight of 195 pounds..... (getting closer)

One of my good friends has a motto: "Forty is the new thirty". He looks much younger than he is. So does Stephen... he is 30 but still gets cast as a teenager......Now,,, what do you think is the single most obvious part of the human body that indicates age?

Drumroll Please.....................

Your Skin!!! Skin is the largest organ on the human body and is a roadmap of the smiles, laughs, frowns, cries, and pain that we have been through.

I am lucky. I have been blessed with good genes and youthful looking skin but recently I have noticed those little laugh lines around the corners of my eyes. Scary and yes it was vanity that kicked in as a motivator. What should I do?  No knife for me...........

Well, I got lucky. Have you ever heard of nanotechnology. The science that makes things super tiny. We usually think of it in our computers.

Nanotechnology has other applications. I know you have seen the smoker trying desperately to quit with the Nicotine patch stuck to his arm. The nicotine is delivered directly into his body through his skin using nanotechnology.

Well, I met a scientist who has created a fantastic skin care product that uses nanotechnology to deliver the nutrients to our skin. Yep, he thought that if they can get nicotine into the body using a patch,,, Why can't I get essential collagen building nutrients directly where they need to be with a skin cream.

You notice I used the word collagen. Your skin cells do not break down. What happens is the connective tissue for the cells (Collagen) breaks down and doesn't renew itself as fast.
The solution for youthful skin:  Build more Collagen faster.

So my new scientist friend figured out how to create that Collagen building boosting skin cream. My plan is to use it. Daily just as the scientist says. I realize that my vanity can allow my alligator mouth to overwhelm my hummingbird ass.  However there are times when that vanity can be used to motivate me to take steps in my life that will be positive and productive.

So, let's toast to vanity!

If you want to learn about this marvelous skin cream shoot me an email or text or be old world and call. Especially you Pebs!!!

Talking bout Lucky or Should I say......

Yep, I feel lucky.  Guess I should say I feel fortunate.  I play poker not roulette. Poker is a game of skill not luck.  Yet, I exist in an industry where no matter how you roll the dice or spin the wheel success as an actor could be thought of as just being lucky.

I have so many friends in this town whose talent can only be described as mind boggling. Erin an opera trained singer with a voice that is truly a gift from God. Julienne an actress whose natural beauty rivals that of Rita Hayworth. Alisha whose expressiveness on camera can make your heart skip a beat.  Why am I so fortunate........... because I know them and my other talented friends like Assaf, Jamie, Suzanne, David.........the list is very long and the list makes me lucky... and fortunate that I have made their acquaintance.  Don't be hurt if I didn't mention you. There could be reason in the madness.

My friends and I all have something in common.  We still fight, we still chase the dream, we still do it because we love it.  So about that roulette spin for success. I know you have heard the question "Why do you play the lottery?" and the answer is "you can't win if you don't buy a ticket.". Guess what this week the office group that won the 300 plus million dollar lottery......one guy didn't play this week. Simple enough? Maybe.... but the acting business is first of all a business. It is a business of building and developing relationships. So, how are we going to make it simple?

Back to talent for a moment.....Erin's voice will rival Kelly Clarkson. Julienne's beauty could stride the catwalk with Elle.  Alisha's talent equals Kathy Bates (I mean she can flat out be real). But guess what that is only part of the job.  It is the talent side. That other side....the  business side must be more important. Has to be!!! or all those individuals we see on the big or little screen that we think have no talent and we question how did they get that job wouldn't exist.

So, how are we going to make it simple? We have to create a plan. A simple business plan. A plan based on skill not luck. A simple repeatable business plan.

We have to force ourselves to do drop-offs every week. We have to go to industry networking events every week. We have to join a group that is industry related where we meet people who are not actors. (Now that sounds weird doesn't it). Yes, people who are not actors. We must meet writers, producers, and directors.  I know........we would rather talk to actors. And every day, I repeat every day...we do some simple activity so we can meet that one person who might be our winning lottery ticket.

Cause guess what if we don't buy the ticket we cannot win. I know right now I feel lucky......

Till we meet again,
