Got a call from the jail, You said come post your bail
You’d wrecked our new truck, While out getting drunk
When I got to the jail, A guy was in the same cell
He had blood on his nose, From the same wreck I suppose
I shook with a sigh, and wiped a tear from my eye
Was the day that I learned that hearts don’t break even
I said you go to hell, I’m not posting your bail
But you got out of jail and went out raising hell
You rented a car with my credit card
You couldn’t resist all those guy on your list
You were driving real fast that tight curve was your last
Was the day that I learned that hearts don’t break even
I sit here at home, with our daughter alone
She asks when you’ll be back My voice starts to crack
We talked about heaven and angels on high
I shook with a sigh and wiped the tears from her eye
That was the day that she learned that hearts don’t break
even
The day that we learned that hearts don’t break even
